Diploma in Terrestrial and Coastal Navigation - Second Assessment

Diploma in Terrestrial and Coastal Navigation - Course Assessment

This free online course outlines the importance of coastal navigation and aids used for estimating a vessel’s position.

Diploma in Terrestrial and Coastal Navigation

Since 2 000 B.C.E., sailors have been navigating the oceans. This course teaches you the planning and monitoring of marine passage using terrestrial and coastal navigation, which explains how to plan and fix a ship’s position at sea. We will outline the concept of the Earth’s axis passing through the north and south poles, the Earth’s equator, which maintains equidistant from the poles, and the polar axis from which you measure angle coordinates.

Operations of Shipborne Meteorological Instruments

Wind Sensors and the Atmosphere

Composition of the Atmosphere

This module will teach you about shipborne meteorological Instruments, their manipulations and precautionary measures. This module will also teach you about the various layers of the atmosphere and their individual characteristics. It will explore the environmental curve and environment lapse rate (ELR).

Insolation, Evaporation and Condensation

Heat, Dew Point and Humidity

Atmospheric Pressure

This module will teach you about evaporation, condensation and the modes of heat transfer. it will also teach you about the concept of dew point and dew point temperature. This module illustrates atmospheric pressure, change of pressure with height as well as average pressure. You will also be introduced to barometric tendency and its characteristics.

Diploma in Meteorology - First Assessment

Forces and Laws of Wind

This module will also teach you about the different types of fog and explain fog, mist, haze as well as other meteorological conditions. This module highlights the weather services for shipping and weather information available to shipping.

Diploma in Meteorology - Second Assessment

Diploma in Meteorology - Course Assessment

A free online course on the measurement of weather conditions, cloud formation as well as weather shipping services.

Diploma in Meteorology

There is more to sailing ships than just manoeuvering a marine vessel. Atmospheric weather conditions should be carefully measured when sailing, and there are various instruments designed to observe the phenomena of the atmosphere. If you are a seafarer or have an interest in meteorology, this free online course will help you learn about weather instruments, the formation of clouds, as well as the different layers of the atmosphere.
